2016 modifye

Thanks for the notice regarding the images! For the bot question, I could check for an answer on the English village help desk. I am not as familiar with bots compared to some other Wikipedians WhisperToMe (discussion) 1 janvye 2016 à 00:12 (UTC)Reponn

WhisperToMe, here's what I'm thinking. (Arsendis and [[MdmPaj, I'm always interested in your opinions, too.) I've seen two templates that I think are out of place here at ht.wikipedia. The first is {{eboch}} (stub), which just says
 – no useful content or instructions, and frankly, it applies to the clear majority of articles. The other is this big blue box that, AFAICT, directs people to Wiktionary instead, {{definisyon}}. This looks complicated/unfriendly to new editors, and it doesn't encourage people to edit here. I'd like to delete them both and have them removed from articles. They could be blanked, which would have the same "visible" effect, but leave stray code around. If we could send a bot or AWB script around to remove them from the articles, that might be even better.
What do you think? WhatamIdoing (discussion) 1 janvye 2016 à 18:26 (UTC)Reponn
Itilizatè:WhatamIdoing do you think that more detailed instructions would help, or do you think it would be too annoying to the users? WhisperToMe (discussion) 3 janvye 2016 à 22:29 (UTC)Reponn
For the stub tags? Saying something other than just "Stub" might be helpful. Maybe "This article has barely gotten started – do you know anything about this subject that you could add?" Or perhaps remove these entirely, and expand the "Do contribute to the Haitian Creole Wikipedia" site notice? WhatamIdoing (discussion) 4 janvye 2016 à 00:26 (UTC)Reponn
Where may I edit the site notice? I would like to put it in bilingual English/French (trilingual in Haitian Creole too would be great) - As for the stub notice I would love for a Haitian speaker to expand that. If need be I can add English and/or French too. WhisperToMe (discussion) 4 janvye 2016 à 03:47 (UTC)Reponn
MedyaWiki:Sitenotice. Any admin can edit at any time. It might be worth looking formatting on Commons for ideas; they're used to dealing with multi-lingual things.
Properly speaking, I believe that there should also be MedyaWiki:Sitenotice/en, MedyaWiki:Sitenotice/es, and MedyaWiki:Sitenotice/fr for the English, Spanish, and French versions. (Haitians often speak French because of history, English because of the USA, and Spanish because of their next-door neighbors, so supporting all four languages would be ideal.) WhatamIdoing (discussion) 4 janvye 2016 à 03:56 (UTC)Reponn
Now that I started the /en, /es, and /fr versions... does it mean the default version should be blank? Or is it best for it to be quadrilingual? WhisperToMe (discussion) 5 janvye 2016 à 10:41 (UTC)Reponn
The default should not be blank. It could be Haitian only, or quadrilingual. WhatamIdoing (discussion) 5 janvye 2016 à 18:03 (UTC)Reponn
In that case I prefer quadrilingual: it's likely many HTwiki contributors may be living "overseas" in the United States, Canada, and/or France. WhisperToMe (discussion) 6 janvye 2016 à 01:08 (UTC)Reponn

Hello, thank you for the sitenotice in four languages. Please can you change (fr) "S'il vous plait... contribuez à la Wikipédia haïtienne" by "S'il vous plait... contribuez à Wikipédia en créole haïtien" ? Thank you, best regards --Arsendis (discussion) 6 janvye 2016 à 06:02 (UTC)Reponn

User:Arsendis    :) WhisperToMe (discussion) 6 janvye 2016 à 09:11 (UTC)Reponn

Yes, a "translation" guide for templates to use would be a great idea. I imagine many HT users would live in New York and Miami rather than Haiti itself, and so they would be very familiar with ENwiki. If we get a lot of people from Quebec and/or France having a translation guide for FRwiki users would be a great idea too. WhisperToMe (discussion) 8 janvye 2016 à 03:38 (UTC)Reponn

I've just started a little list at Itilizatè:WhatamIdoing/Welcome,_Wikipedians. It needs more.
I think we need a process for deleting things (templates, in particular). Have you found any old pages/processes for this yet? What's a good place to discuss deletions? WhatamIdoing (discussion) 8 janvye 2016 à 22:53 (UTC)Reponn

Translation modifye

Hello ; I think I found the corresponding model here: Modèl:Fè ; in French, done=Fait.

It seems difficult to find users who are able to write in correct Haitian Creole, is it not ? Sadly, those who write here often seems want to promote themselves, but not for the encyclopedia's progressing (please excuse my poor English !). --Arsendis (discussion) 8 janvye 2016 à 10:59 (UTC)Reponn

Should we add "" to that template? I'd be happy to redirect both {{done}} and ({{fait}}, so that people who "speak" either enwiki or frwiki can find what they need. WhatamIdoing (discussion) 8 janvye 2016 à 21:55 (UTC)Reponn
yes, for "done", the correct word in Haitian Creole is "Fè" (and in French, "Fait") --Arsendis (discussion) 10 janvye 2016 à 14:48 (UTC)Reponn
Sorry, I don't know users who write Haitian Creole. I post a message to Racconish (d · k) who is a very active user on Wikipédia in French. He is in relation with many contributors as a "mediator" (and a member of the French ArbCom too) ; maybe he will have an idea to help us to bring any contributors on Wikipedia in Haitian Creole, --Arsendis (discussion) 12 janvye 2016 à 10:16 (UTC)Reponn
For finding new contributors in Creole, Racconish advises me to contact, maybe, the Wikimedia France Association. But actually, I don't have the time to do that, because of my occupations. I'll post tomorrow a message on the wp:fr/Projet:Caraïbes, but it seems inactive, wait and see ! --Arsendis (discussion) 12 janvye 2016 à 19:33 (UTC)Reponn

Dlo pou bwè pwòp

Paske nan vizit mwen nan OKAP nan lane 2001 ak pou soti nan imel nan men zanmi gen lekti, mwen deside ke premye atik mwen an ta dwe sou dlo pou bwè pwòp. Malerezman, referans yo pou atik sa a soti nan Wikipedya nan lang angle yo se soti nan dat !! Se konsa, kounye a, pa sèlman fè mwen gen yo korije referans yo nan atik ki vin dlo pwòp, referans yo nan atik ki vin angle gen yo dwe mete ajou.

Deletion discussion modifye

I had been busy in the past several days. I don't know where the discussions are usually held. If there is no "Votes for deletion" page maybe one should be created? WhisperToMe (discussion) 17 janvye 2016 à 11:10 (UTC)Reponn

Yes, I don't see a dedicated HT page on en:Wikipedia:Articles for deletion WhisperToMe (discussion) 17 janvye 2016 à 11:22 (UTC)Reponn

Re:New article modifye

Hello, Ahytian = Ayisyen (Haitian), and Laite-la = Lèt (likid) (Milk), it seems words of an other creole than Haitian, I don’t know which. Caribbean creole (Martinique, Guadeloupe, etc.) looks like very much Haitian creole, and creole of La Reunion is different. Maybe for those 2 pages a redirection should be better, what do yo think ?

190.82.80.87 (d · k), 190.102.120.176 (d · k), 200.113.217.222 (d · k) Graenmairyen Ahytian (d · k) and others users writted any pages in this same language : Annrecyclopeidyei Ahyti ah, Graenmaire Ahytianna, Graenmaire Ahytianna Ortografhy standard, Graenmaire gjeineiraly, Kounjugaezon veirby Aguen..., I don’t know what we can do with it. --Arsendis (discussion) 21 janvye 2016 à 15:51 (UTC)Reponn

Re: AWB modifye

Hi! In the past, I made many corrections with the AWB here (including the replacment of "Imaj:" to "Fichye:"). However, after a time, I now consider that these edits were more like those of a bot. So you care if a bot make this work? I can try to get one.   Érico (talk) 21 janvye 2016 à 16:45 (UTC)Reponn

Hi Érico! I'd be happy to have a bot. I thought that AWB might be easier to set up. Are you good with bots? I'd like to have an archiving bot set up for Wikipedia:Kafe, but I don't know if any are turned on here. WhatamIdoing (discussion) 21 janvye 2016 à 18:52 (UTC)Reponn
More or less. I can try to get approval from a bot to correct these pages. What do you think? Érico (talk) 21 janvye 2016 à 22:34 (UTC)Reponn
First, I should probably make a complete list of the changes. Two of the changes I want to make will require discussion. WhatamIdoing (discussion) 22 janvye 2016 à 00:04 (UTC)Reponn

Re:Check this? modifye

It seems to me that the whole article is not written in the "usual" Haitian Creole ("usual": such as those written, for example, by Aliceba (d · k) or Masterches (d · k), who write a correct Haitian Creole). I grouped all pages using this same unusual Creole in the "Kategori:Atik an lòt kreyòl". It seems to me that only users familiar with Haitian Creole will know what to do with all these articles, what do you think? --Arsendis (discussion) 3 fevriye 2016 à 08:37 (UTC)Reponn

Thanks, Arsendis. I like your category.
I'm currently thinking this: if someone who speaks usual Haitian Creole can figure out what it means, then it's probably worth keeping (and "translating" to proper Haitian Creole someday). But if it's completely incomprehensible, then maybe we should treat it like, say, an article in Russian and consider it for deletion? WhatamIdoing (discussion) 4 fevriye 2016 à 03:29 (UTC)Reponn
Yes, I think so   --Arsendis (discussion) 4 fevriye 2016 à 15:10 (UTC)Reponn

Contacting Haitian organizations in the United States, France, Canada, etc modifye

I have an idea on how to get more participation: contacting Haitian organizations in the United States, France, Canada, etc - Including mutual aid groups, university student organizations, etc.

Should I submit a draft e-mail so we can agree what to say to them? WhisperToMe (discussion) 10 fevriye 2016 à 05:03 (UTC)Reponn

Sure. I wonder if someone from the education or outreach groups has ideas. It'd be nice to pair them with mentors or ambassadors, if possible. I'm not sure who's working on that at the moment, but it shouldn't be hard to find. WhatamIdoing (discussion) 10 fevriye 2016 à 17:12 (UTC)Reponn
I'll make a listing based on area.

Doubt modifye

Hi, I talked to LLarson (d · k) and he suggested changing the name of "pwovens" to "pwovans" in several articles I edited, as I am still in doubt about more correct I would like to have the opinion of another before modifying 50 articles. I tried to find online but not show anything.

The fifty articles have other errors that must be corrected and I would like to fix them all at once. They start with "... se yon komin nan pwovens Málaga, nan kominote otonòm Andalouzi, nan peyi Espay.... In this case I should correct also this "pwovens"? Phabricator modifye

Bonjou, I ! I have a question you might be able to help with concerning another non‑large Wikipedia. There’s an outstanding Phabricator task from 2014 for the Esperanto‑language wikis, to remove a special functionality added over a decade ago, but which has outlived its usefulness (entering “ux” produces “ŭ” and “uxx” produces “ux”). It’s my understanding that there’s a working patch there, too, so I’m wondering if you knew how to finally see that it’s committed and implemented? Thank you. 😊 —LLarson (di & ) 21 jen 2016 à 13:42 (UTC)Reponn

Thanks for the note. I will remind them of this problem. It might take a bit (Wikimania 2016 is happening this week, so lots of devs are traveling), but I'll put it on the list. WhatamIdoing (discussion) 24 jen 2016 à 01:29 (UTC)Reponn
Amir is happy about this request. I think he's trying to be careful/not break anything accidentally. I don't know when it's going to be done. If it seems to get stalled, then feel free to ping me (next month?) again. WhatamIdoing (discussion) 14 jiyè 2016 à 03:24 (UTC)Reponn

Question modifye

Already (are you a sock just to test me?) there have been a few pages added that are nonsense:here and here How is a page deleted? I see how to block a disruptive user, after lots of warnings of course, but I don't see how to delete a page.

Hold on...there are two written forms of kreyol. These two pages are written in the older form - the one which I can't read. I will leave a message for the editor before deleting. Perhaps just a tag will do, after all this is the ht wikipedia and I am still somewhat of an outsider. I still need to delete some of my own mistakes in page titles that now exist as english-titled pages that contain no content I made in the past.

See w:en:Wikipedia:Administrators' guide/Deleting. The English Wikipedia's documentation is extensive, and while there are a few differences (e.g., almost no bots here), the basic instructions should work the same. WhatamIdoing (discussion) 25 jiyè 2017 à 07:27 (UTC)Reponn

Two writing systems modifye

The older kreyol writing system is partially based on French spelling. But phonetically it is the same. I am beginning to be able to read this older form of kreyol now (with practice). I don't feel it is necessary for anyone to convert any of these articles into the newer kreyol system of writing, especially since contributions are being written more frequently now. It is interesting to me to have a wikipedya with three language contributions. Fortunately I can read a little French, also. Whew!
