One frame from 5:00 of this video has been used to measure the position of the sun. The red lines should mark due east-west and due north-south. From examination of the Google Earth version of the map, at the coordinates given in the Wikipedia article, it appears clear that the scene is being viewed from the north. Measurements taken were that the east-west line was +540x, +50y; the north-south line was -85x, +121y; and the telephone pole shadow was +87x, +23y, where x,y are pixels from the upper left corner. These were calculated to mean that the angle of the pole was at tan-1(0.15) and that the sun is 8.5 degrees south of due east. Using this angle, the equation of time to subtract 6 minutes from the local time, and the longitude of Baghdad to subtract 2 minutes (to make it a UTC+3 local time zone), I calculated a time of 6:26 a.m. (not counting daylight savings time). The footage reads 06:23:22. On this basis I believe the helicopter footage is in local time, not in GMT standard time. Note that this conflicts with the U.S. Army report. (see [1]). Note that this "original research" cannot be cited or used in the Wikipedia article by itself, but supports a search for other sources.
