                                               Fine Art

NBH was born in Jeremie, Haiti.

She was raised in a family environment where art and literature permeated daily activities. Her grandfather was a writer, her uncle an artist.

Nicole Brice Hyppolite took drawing lessons early on at the French Institute of Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Later in life, she graduated in Fine Arts from the North Light Institute of Cincinnati, Ohio. She indulges in continuing artistic education through hundreds of books, magazines, videos and cds. Because of her scholarly background, Nicole is very conscious of artistic rules and technique. Yet she believes that technique should not overpower feelings. This is precisely why she very often quotes the old saying: Art should hide technique and artifice (ars est celare artem).

The artist favors Impressionism. She paints her emotions. She believes painting is music, colors are sound and brush strokes are like arpeggios and musical variations.

She is versatile with her themes and media. She is as proficient with oil as with pencil, charcoal, watercolor, pastel, egg tempera and casein. She considers the American watercolorist Andrew Wyeth as a powerful model. She loves Mary Cassatt and her pastel work; and she has great admiration for female Haitian artist Luce Turnier.

NBH is well appreciated by her fellow artists and she greatly respects them. Her enthusiastic collectors marvel over her exquisite style and delicate touch.

Nicole Brice Hyppolite continues to paint actively. She is domiciled both in Florida and in her native Haiti. She enjoys sharing her spiritual and artistic knowledge with the youth of her beloved country.
