Please turn off date validation

I tried to help by translating the dates into haitian or in the format YYYY-MM-DD. Who knows how to indicate the language in the references ?--Gilles2014 (discussion) 27 jen 2017 à 19:00 (UTC)

Also accepts ISO639-2 codes and accepts multiple languages as a comma-separated list:

Not sure that it is my place to overturn the work of others; especially since I rarely contribute here. If there is a consensus to disable date checking I will help if needed. Perhaps better, might be to extend the date checking to accept English month names or it may be possible to do simple translation.

This is a tiny community, so we're pretty bold and anti-bureaucratic. I don't mind making the edit myself, but I don't know how to change it without screwing up other things. (The module isn't protected.)

I don't think that disabling date validation is a good idea. There are relatively few articles that show these errors. If you disable the checking now, and the decision is taken later to enable the checking, then there will be a large backlog for editors then to fix and that is a pain. If you can wait a bit (real life is in the way) I'll see what can be done in the way of translation.

Hello, Thanks for your help. in a reference, now adding the parameter "|language=es" generates a CS1 error. The same error with the valueː en (for english), de (for german) or ht (for haitian), es (for spanish), etc. I suppose that there is a lack of treatment of this parameter (on the other wikipedias, the treatement exists).

For the dates in the external references, I propose the preference for the format YYYY-MM-DD without changing the code of the template.

What cs1 error when using |language=es? This apparently works:

{{cite book |title=Title |language=es}}

Title (in espagnol). 

Can you show me where you are seeing this?

Thank you for your efforts. See for example the article Marjorie de Sousa, There is an automatic category generated with ː "CS1 espagnol-language sources (es)". Espagnol is a french word. In a word, no. cs1|2 gets these names from MediaWiki. It would appear that MediaWiki does not know about Haitian Creole names for these other languages so is falling back on French (Haitian Creole does drive from French, does it not?). As proof of what I've said, these magic words return the same language names as the examples I made above using the cs1|2 templates:

{{#language:ht|ht}} → Kreyòl ayisyen

{{#language:de|ht}} → allemand

{{#language:es|ht}} → espagnol

To fix this, you must go to MediaWiki and get them to to add the CLDR language names for Haitian Creole. I don't know how to do that but perhaps WhatamIdoing knows who to talk to about that.

OK, so I'm not I'm really not a CLDR expert like Nemo bis and Nikerabbit are, but I have a terrible suspicion that Haitian Creole doesn't have a CLDR locale at all. I cannot find any entries with "ht" in CLDR's language names list, for example. The name of Haitian Creole appears there in many languages, but not in Haitian Creole itself.

If I'm correct, then the first step to fixing it upstream would be to create a Haitian Creole locale in CLDR. The CLDR page in translatewiki describes the first steps. Again, Nemo is much more capable than I am in helping to do this (although I'll be happy to learn).

What I'm not sure about is what to do till then, because actually getting it into CLDR can take several months or even over a year. Other than being written in the incorrect language, why are the French fallbacks problematic? Do they break any templates? --Amir E. Aharoni (discussion) 10 jiyè 2017 à 10:26 (UTC)

CLDR do have fr-HT so perhaps this is where the French fallbacks arise?

Or perhaps not. At github, this: mediawiki-extensions-cldr mirror (I couldn't find the real thing at Gerrit) has CldrNamesFr.php but no fr-HT. Nor is there a 'LocalNames' supplement for fr-HT. Perhaps the answer to the what-to-do-until-there-is-an-official-Haitian-Creole-locale-in-CLDR question is to create a LocalNamesHt.php file from the en:list of ISO 639-1 codes.
